Finding digital solutions to improve the quality of life of people with dementia.
Worldwide, 50 million people are living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Roche was committed to finding digital health solutions covering the entire patient journey.
Building Tomorrow Together – Innovation in Dementia, a collaborative innovation project by Roche, was created to bring together several key players in the health ecosystem.
The program gathered, for the first time, private, public and philanthropic organizations to power an ecosystem and the collaboration between all stakeholders and startups from all geographies to develop and introduce innovative technologies that will support healthcare providers and improve patients’ lives and their caregivers.

The Impact
Revolutionizing Neuropsychological Testing
Virtuleap is collaborating with Lusíadas Hospital in a virtual reality solution that digitalizes neuropsychological tests for Alzheimer’s patients. This innovative technology enhances diagnostic accuracy and supports more effective treatment planning for those living with Alzheimer’s disease.
Simplifying Alzheimer’s Diagnosis
NeoNeuro’s pilot program with Centro Hospitalar de Entre Douro e Vouga aims to simplify the Alzheimer’s diagnosis process by using an innovative blood test. This test detects amyloid levels through neuro-aptamers, providing a faster and more accurate approach to diagnosing the disease.
30-Second Alzheimer’s Detection
iLoF, in partnership with Hospital São João and Luz Saúde Group, tested an under-30-second Alzheimer’s diagnosis using AI and photonic science. By creating a digital biomarker library from blood samples, this non-invasive solution offers accurate and rapid dementia diagnosis, setting a new standard for early detection.
Wearables to Improve Dementia Patient Care
Somatix’s AI-powered smart wristband, tested by CNS and CUF, offers remote monitoring of dementia patients to improve safety, well-being, and autonomy. By reducing caregiver burden, as well as hospitalizations and infections, this solution is transforming dementia care and helping improve the quality of life for patients and their families.
